help prevent

Sports Injuries?

A couple of years ago, I worked with a college football player. He wanted to get the advantage Sports Performance Hypnosis / NLP would help him with his sport.
.
We did some work for focus and confidence, but one area he especially wanted work with was the fear that he would be reinjured.
..
"The secret of health for both mind and body
is not to mourn for the past,
not to worry about the future,
or not to anticipate troubles,
but to live in the present moment
wisely and earnestly."
The Buddha
..
The previous year, he had been out most of the season with an injury and since then, he was overly cautious about any injury that would keep him from playing.  It was making him miserable.  He was very unhappy!
 ..
Now naturally, being overly cautious would not allow him to play the aggressive way a football player, or an athlete for that matter, should play their sport. .. He was all stressed out and having trouble sleeping.  And if an athlete doesn’t get adequate sleep, they can’t play their best!  The body and mind needs that restorative sleep to be able to have the energy to perform.
 ..

His college Football Coach recommended Hypnosis to help him reduce stress and to sleep better.
  ..

When he contacted me and found out I did Sports Hypnosis he was very excited! Tackle the worry monster and increase focus and confidence using Hypnosis together would be ideal!
 ..
It didn’t take long for him to realize he was in the right place!
 ..
He even got to the point that he was concerned about non-injury health related issues were worrying him. He was concerned about his heartbeat. He worried that a headache could be the sign of a brain tumor.  He thought a cold was the beginning of the flu, which of course would turn into pneumonia, which would lead to his death.
..
“Healthy thinking is a habit,
just like neurotic thinking is a habit.”
Dr. Wayne Dyer
 ..
He had become a kleptomaniac / hypochondriac.  Why would I add kleptomaniac to this?  Because he was stealing his own peace of mind and the chance to succeed from himself!  And because he was exaggerating every little sniffle / ache / discomfort into something it wasn’t.
..
We started with Self Hypnosis instruction to reduce the stress and to help him get a good night’s sleep. Later we added suggestions for better focus and confidence. And then we began to fine tune with carefully worded suggestions to improve his sports performance.
 ..
He began to realize that since he was focused on the fear of injury, he was hesitating, he was timid in his performance, and he was second guessing himself – not just in football, but in other areas of his life as well.  Even his workouts were having diminished positive results.
..
He told me the work we did carried over into many other areas of his life as well.
..
He confided in me that he was even afraid to be in a relationship because he was afraid he would be hurt.  He began applying the confidence building we were doing with Sports Hypnosis to this area of life as well.
 .
Will he ever get hurt in a relationship?  Maybe.  But if he does, he will be able to handle it.  But at least he will be open to giving himself the chance to be happy, to love and be loved.  Before, he was too afraid to even consider it.
..
Although we were focused on Sports Hypnosis, he also discovered he could use the tools I taught him along with Self Hypnosis to improve his study habits and saw his grades improving.  He was able to study more effectively and efficiently.   He has a great career in business to look forward to if he chooses to pursue a business career instead of a professional football career, or to use later when he retires from football.
 ..

And because he remained injury free through the season, he was instrumental in helping his team with a winning season.

..

“You must feed your mind even as you feed your body,
and to make your mind healthy you must feed it
nourishing, wholesome thoughts.”
Norman Vincent Peale
..
Was he injury free due to the Hypnosis? I’m sure the Hypnosis helped.  He was able to go out and play football at a higher level of Confidence and was more focused on working out to strengthen his body.  He no longer focused on fear of injury and instead he focused on being healthy and confident.
..
So how does Sports Hypnosis prevent injuries?  By helping an athlete focus on being healthy.Building confidenceHelping an athlete be focused on the momentMinimizing the distraction of worry / doubtImproving workouts to build stronger muscles / bodyBetter sleep to help maintain energyStress management to keep the athlete calmer and more relaxed
..
And Sports Hypnosis can even help the body / mind in healing injuries faster as well.
.
How?  Many of the same reasons listed above. The SubConscious Mind is very powerful – look at the evidence of placebos.
..

When a person believes they are healthy, they are more likely to be healthy.

..

When an athlete believes they will heal more quickly from an injury or surgery, they tend to respond better to rehab and are more likely to follow the physician’s recommendations so they can get back to playing sooner.
